A Special Return to Loughborough University

Recently, I had the great pleasure of returning to Loughborough University for their Undergraduate Open Day with my son, Reece. Having attended Loughborough myself almost 30 years ago, returning to the university brought back many fantastic memories. This time, though, it felt particularly special to be back there with Reece, as he considers applying next year to study his chosen degree subject.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

We spent the day attending presentations, exploring the campus and facilities, and getting a real feel for what university life at Loughborough could be like.

It was fascinating to see how much the university has developed since my time there. So much has changed, yet there were still plenty of familiar places and surroundings that brought back memories of my own time as a student.

A Strong Sporting Heritage

Loughborough has always been renowned for its sporting facilities and opportunities, and it was impressive to see the scale and quality of what is available to students today.

Given my involvement in adaptive cycling and the work we do through Velotrain, it was particularly interesting to see the continued focus on sport, exercise and performance, and the opportunities available to people with a wide range of sporting ambitions.

A Special Day to Share

Walking around a place that played such an important part in my own life, this time alongside my son, was a pretty special experience. It was wonderful to see Reece exploring the campus and thinking about what his own future might look like there. Hopefully, in years to come, he will look back on this visit with the same fondness that I have for my own time at Loughborough.

A very memorable day and perhaps the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Reece!
