On Friday 16 October, I headed to Innovation in Action, an event hosted by Inond at the X+YWhy meeting room in Unity Place, Santander’s headquarters, as part of Milton Keynes Tech Week.
The brief was simple but powerful: an interactive afternoon exploring people, technology and how better problem-solving can lead to better ideas, better technology and meaningful innovation.
This really resonated with me and the journey behind Velotrain Accessible Rollers. We identified a problem, considered the people affected, the wider community, accessibility and the role technology could play. By bringing these elements together, we set out to create a meaningful solution that makes indoor cycling more accessible and inclusive.
It was an afternoon I thoroughly enjoyed, with excellent speakers, engaging presentations and plenty of food for thought. I came away with fresh perspectives, some great ideas and new processes to consider.
The words that really stayed with me were:
People. Purpose. Technology. Community. Access.
Five simple words, but together they capture so much of what meaningful innovation should be about.
For me, innovation is not simply about technology itself. It is about understanding people, recognising challenges, improving access and creating solutions that make a genuine difference.
My thanks to Inond for organising such an engaging event and for the invitation. It was a great way to round off Milton Keynes Tech Week.
