On Sunday 18 October, I had the pleasure of taking part in the Inclusive Cycle Ride around central London, organised by Regain, the charity for people who have become tetraplegic through injury or illness.
It was a fantastic day from start to finish. Cycling around some of London’s most iconic sights with such an enthusiastic and like-minded group made the 12-mile route feel all the more special.
We began at the West Carriage Drive Car Park in Hyde Park. It was easy to find, with free parking available for Blue Badge holders, and there was plenty of room to unload bikes and handcycles. Having the space to prepare safely, away from passing cars and pedestrians, made for a relaxed and well-organised start to the day.
The weather was perfect, the conversation flowed, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the ride. I was especially pleased that my son was able to join me. Sharing our love of cycling while spending some quality father-and-son time together made the day even more memorable.
After the ride, we rounded things off with a sociable meal overlooking the Serpentine. It was the perfect opportunity to relax, catch up and reflect on the day’s adventures.
My sincere thanks go to Dominic Coleman and Michael Barratt for organising such a fantastic event, and to Regain for the invitation.
Old friendships were rekindled, new friendships were made, and plenty of wonderful memories were created. What’s not to love?
Roll on the next one in 2027. In the meantime, I’ll be continuing to cycle throughout the winter months, both indoors and out.
